Work made of Douglas & brass-plated metal.
This artwork is an exceptional piece that immediately captures the attention with its bold choice of materials and unique form. The sculpture highlights the wood worked with impressive precision, with each line and curve carefully carved to create a fascinating visual effect. The wood features undulating and concentric patterns, evoking the natural rings of trees, while adding a clearly intentional artistic dimension. The center of the sculpture is adorned with a finely chiseled circle, which contrasts beautifully with the organic lines of the wood. This central circle appears almost mechanical, reinforcing a contrast between traditional craftsmanship and a more industrial aesthetic. It can symbolize a point of convergence or focus, drawing the eye and adding conceptual depth to the work. The overall shape of the piece is a sort of asymmetrical square, with slightly raised corners, creating a sense of dynamism and movement, despite the static nature of the material. The wood has also been treated to reveal a range of hues from deep browns to intense blacks, perhaps suggesting a controlled burning process that intensifies the natural patterns and adds texture. Mounted on a discreet metal base, this sculpture combines robustness and elegance, allowing the work to present itself in a majestic yet accessible manner. The artist has undoubtedly succeeded in marrying the natural element of wood with contemporary design, creating a piece that is both timeless and innovative.
My universe is deeply inspired by the Neolithic world, the large-scale representations of the first traces of man, the dolmens, the menhir statues or the imposing cairns. Who are these builders, with what techniques and knowledge were they able to create these forms? It is the whole free field left by silence to these questions that is a source of inspiration, dialogue, research. And closer to us, the charm and spirituality of the temples of the 11th and 12th century of Japan.
My sculptures form a constellation of points, like a taut arc that connects us to these unfathomable origins, to nature, to space.
"I like to let myself be guided by impulses. The sculpture is built as I go along. I always try to create transparency, light effects by playing with the black of the wood licked by the flame, the orange gradients of the Douglas pine, the silver reflections of the steel.
Next to my studio, I have created a space of truth. The sculptures thus arranged must give me emotions, sensations, like a magnetic current."
