Asian-Inspired Interior
From Indonesia, Vietnam, China and Japan in the East, to South Asian countries such as India and Nepal. Interiors inspired by the rich and varied cultures of Asia allow us to travel to distant lands while remaining at home. Artwork enhances this spirit while adding a personal touch.
One of the first concepts that comes to mind regarding Asian decoration is the ancient technique of Feng Shui. Feng Shui is a Chinese method that allows us to achieve fulfilment and serenity by affecting our physical environment directly. This thousand-year-old art translates into French as "wind and water" and is based on the five elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. A feng shui decoration therefore respects simple rules of arrangement to find a better balance. One artist whose work encapsulates the calming energy of feng shui is Chinese painter Li Dongfeng.
If you prefer Japanese inspiration to traditionally Chinese decor, you should opt for screens that allow the play of transparency in the living rooms. The Japanese style also values nature and the outdoors in general: the arrangement of flowers and plants is an area where the Japanese excel. Japanese photographer Yasuo Kiyonaga uses his art to highlight the beauty of the country's nature. Bonsai is well known, but other solutions exist such as kokedama and ikebana. The Asian garden design also includes refined sculptures and elaborate fountains. Butterflies, fish, cherry blossoms and Hokusai-style waves are all essential motifs in Japanese poetic decoration.
Travelling further south, Indian art often explores religion, with Buddhist and Hindu gods being frequent symbols. Another Indian artistic tradition is tribal art, with artists such as Ram Singh Urveti depicting indigenious nature in his bright, colorful paintings.
Celebrate Asian culture by creating an Asian-inspired interior with Artsper's selection of art inspired by the diverse and rich cultures of the continent.
