Gamze Yalçin
Nature has the power to renew and transform itself. I wanted to reflect this idea into my work and be the change you want to see in the world.
Biography
Gamze Yalçın (b. 1987, Turkey) graduated in 2010 from Mimar Sinan Fine Art University of Istanbul. She moved to Berlin a few years ago, and, since then, her works have been exhibited in various shows in Turkey, Germany, Spain and Italy.
Being a multidisciplinary artist, Gamze paints on different surfaces, from paper to canvas, from sailcloth to concrete walls.
For Gamze, a work usually starts by discovering the surprises of simple forms, nature or texture which she experiences in her daily life; these experiences interpreted by her own thoughts and feelings are then translated to her drawing which is the foundation of her practice. Around this daily routine and the artist's ongoing travels, Yalcin flows directly into her studio practice which focuses on translating her daily experiences into landscape based compositions, paintings and studies.
Recently, her frenetic artistic mind focused on classical art themes, using her 'matissiesque palette' to enhance dreamlike landscapes or still-life paintings. The vibrant figurative works of Gamze Yalçın are assimilating different concepts of the last century's art movements -being inspired mostly by the Fauvism-, confronting them with her intuitive way of painting, full of energy.
