Biography
Jazzu, born in Toulouse in 1983, is a self-taught artist whose modesty borders on shyness. His instinctive, sincere approach to painting is distinguished by a vitality that attracts the attention of gallery owners and collectors alike. This has enabled his works to rub shoulders with those of Combas and Speedy Graphito.
Jazzu paints as he breathes, transcending filiations, currents and codes. His paintings, free of all posture and premeditation, is guided by feeling. He creates an alchemy of colors and materials dictated by his subjects, seeking to translate the cultural and political current events of our time. His raw, primitive painting is also sensual in texture, almost epidermal, revealing a human depth in every stroke.
His works, both painted and drawn, are ordered by gesture according to the principles of neo-expressionism. Jazzu's forms, marked by perpetual action, reflect his desire to make states of soul, being and thought dance.
In Jazzu's creations, the flesh of bodies and words appears like mantras insisting on saying and showing. This pantomime, supported by a dynamic rhythm, uses a variety of techniques and a powerful will. His works capture the present with a wild energy, tempered by an underlying wisdom that seems to whisper, “Everything will be all right in the end."
Jazzu's sincerity and instinctive approach quickly won him recognition. His works, often exhibited alongside great names in contemporary art, testify to his ability to capture the essence of current events and human emotions. His work reflects a gallery of the here and now, driven by vibrant energy and reflective depth.
