Artwork location: Brazil

This artwork is an exemplary display of a vivid and lush natural landscape. The composition is densely packed, brimming with vibrant colors and meticulously detailed flora. At first glance, the eye is drawn to the harmonious blend of greens that dominate the piece, creating a rich tapestry of various plant species. Each shade of green is carefully layered, contributing to the depth and realism of the scene. The foreground is an explosion of warm hues, with clusters of orange, yellow, and purple flowers in full bloom. These colors are boldly applied, their saturation bringing an intensity that contrasts beautifully with the cooler background tones. Among these flowers, thick leaves and branches interweave, adding texture and dimension to the composition. Attention to detail is prominent, as seen in the variety of leaf shapes and the delicate, intricate portrayal of petals. The middle ground features a serene stream or small pond, the water depicted with smooth, reflective strokes that capture the surrounding greenery. This water body serves as a tranquil centerpiece, creating a calming respite amidst the chaos of foliage. Towards the back, the artwork transitions smoothly into darker tones of blue and green. These cooler colors recede naturally, giving a sense of depth and distance. The sky, though barely visible, hints at a dusky or twilight atmosphere, adding a layer of mystery and serenity to the scene. Purples and dark reds pepper the upper regions, indicating the presence of blooming trees or tall bushes that anchor the composition, guiding the viewer's eye upwards and throughout the landscape. The foliage merges seamlessly, their boundaries blurred, creating a coherent and immersive environment. Overall, this artwork showcases an exceptional use of color, depth, and detail, creating not just a visual delight but an almost tangible serenity. It is a sublime representation of nature's diverse beauty, capturing the intricate interplay of light, shadow, and botanical richness.

Iracema Arditi, Le premier février
Brazil  • 1924  - 2006

Presentation

Born in São Paulo in 1924. She grew up in the city of Rio de Janeiro. In 1951, she moved to São Paulo and on her own, without the guidance of a fine arts teacher, she began painting in 1952. Her first personal exhibition took place in Paris, at the Herbinet gallery. Then, she regularly exhibits in various Cultural Centers in Europe and throughout Brazil. In 1967, she was elected Corporate Member and Jury of the Salon d'Automne in Paris. She collects the works of the most important Brazilian naive painters of the time. She gathered her collection and in 1972 founded the Museu do Sol in São Paulo, the first in South America dedicated to this genre of painting. This Museum was then transferred to the city of Penápolis in 1978. Iracema played a leading role in the naive art movement in Brazil. Numerous distinctions between prizes and medals mark his life devoted to a unique work. France, in 1985, awarded her the Knight's Cross of Arts and Letters. She lived between Lyon and São Paulo until her death in 2006.
