Mónica Castanys

Monica Castanys is a Spanish painter born in Barcelona in 1973.
She graduated from Barcelona Arts and Crafts School in 1993 and she took some courses at the Lorenzo de Medici School in Florence, Italy, as well.

She uses a color palette reminiscent to that of French impressionist, although with more expressiveness and a stronger taste for light in her scenes of daily life, the artist creates an enigmatic map of the urban and human imagination.

In these places, where she becomes an spectator, she lets herself observe discreetly everything that happens around her.This way, she can paint unnoticed by the models, who are just walking or simply bored.
At the same time, the artist makes a zoom of the scene in her work and accentuates the female figure in a slow tempo.

Monica Castanys has received several national prizes for young artists and her work has been exhibited in numerous private and group exhibitions in Spain and abroad.
