French artist Philippe Berry was born in 1956 in Paris. He lives and works in Paris. At the age of seventeen, he goes to a drawing school, ESAG Penninghen. The work of Philippe Berry explores the universe of childhood: balloons, teddy bears, Indians and cowboys figurines, snowmen, animals... they are as many poetic ways of working with bronze, his favorite material, a meterial which allows him to pursue his research on volumes and colors.
This is how the artist explains his work : "I have built this universe of bronze thinking of Antiquity, but I wanted a break with the past, I wanted colors. I have tried to work in resin, but I was not satisfied with the result, ( ... ) in terms of color, I have tried at the foundry to paint the bronze, and we needed a year to develop a system that would allow us to polish it to an extreme degree..."
Philippe Berry likes the idea that his works can be seen in different ways, that they invite the viewers to try multiple readings. His sculptures are fun and colorful, of course, but they are also reflections on balance, form, freedom, and most of all they are attempts to apprehend the artistic condition in its entirety.
