Biography

Saki Otsuka : Photographer, Painter, Artist. Born in Tokyo, A Woman.

“At the age of 15, a significant rupture occurred in my life, beginning of my journey as a survivor of sexual violence. I strongly assert my existence and express the hopes and despairs of living as a woman. "I am here"—this reality is my voice and my work.

My expression spans various forms, but primarily focuses on photography and painting. Both carry the meaning of self-portraiture and are characterized by their documentary nature. My photographs include self-portraits and images focused on women, capturing daily scenes to straightforwardly express 'I am here.' My paintings convey the pain and hope in my heart, documenting my survival of repeated cycles of despair and hope. These changes reflect the pain of a survivor.

The pain of discrimination against women in society is not a personal matter. The plea of 'I am here' is the plea of everyone who knows this pain. I hope that the resonance created by my work will become a source of hope."
