Poonam Dhillon won the title of Miss India in 1977, when she was only 16 years old. She was called ‘Young Miss India’. However, she started her filmy career from Yash Chopra’s film “Trishul”. She gave flawless presentation in the song “Gapoochi Gapoochi gum gum”. Captivated by her performance, Yash Chopra signed her as a lead character in his film “Noori”, which was a big hit on Box Office and nominated her in Filmfare in Best Actress category. Apart from Bollywood movies, Poonam has also showed her skills in regional movies, consisted on different languages such as “Nyay Danda,” which is in Bengali, “Yudha Kanda”, which is a Kannad movie and “Ishtam”, which is a Telegu film. She had also performed in other multi-starrers like “Karma” and “Batwara”. Even after her marriage with Ashok Thakeria, she never quitted her profession like other actresses.
